Giving Students a Firsthand Look at our Community's Beginnings

School Charters

Plan now for your Spring and Fall field trips. We are pleased to accept reservations for dates on the Islander and Princess Wenonah for April through October.

Our school program consists of a two-hour cruise including live narration as we cruise up or down the Saginaw River. Our narrator, local historian Tom Bork, presents a wide variety of information about the beginnings of the Bay City area and it's origins in the lumbering and shipbuilding industries. Old ship hulls, historic sites and geographic features are some of the highlights that will be pointed out to your students. Native American history, agriculture and present day industry are also included in the narrative. Thousands of students have come away from this unique trip enlightened and excited about what they have just experienced.

We'll help you choose the vessel most suited to your group. In 2002 the 150 passenger Islander was added to our lines, joining the original vessel, the 254 passenger Princess Wenonah. Recommended group sizes are 100 persons on the Islander and up to 200 persons on the Princess Wenonah. Both vessels meet or exceed all Coast Guard safety regulations and are equipped with modern safety equipment. We require adequate adult chaperones, generally one adult per three to five children, depending on grade levels scheduled to travel.

While you're visiting Bay City you may wish to schedule a picnic in Wenonah Park, a visit to the Delta College Planetarium (989)667-2260 or the Bay County Historical Museum (989)893-5733, or an ecological outing at Bay City State Recreation Area (989)667-0717.

For rates or to check available dates call Michelle Judd at (989) 893-0251.
